Tuna Melt Wrap

If you love quick and satisfying meals, then this Tuna Melt Wrap is about to be in regular rotation. It’s everything you want in a quick lunch — think creamy tuna with fresh squeezed lemon, a spoonful of relish, and a little kick from our Homemade Spicy Mayo. (It’s so good you’ll want to keep a jar in your fridge at all times.)

Each wrap is loaded with flavor, sealed with a handful of gooey mozzarella, and toasted until golden. The best part? It takes just 10 minutes to prepare from start to finish. It’s so versatile and as-is or loaded with sliced avocado, finely shredded Romaine, fresh herbs, and diced pickles. One bite and you’ll be hooked!

Before you start

  • The Tuna Melt Wrap is a quick and satisfying meal that takes just 10 minutes to prepare.
  • It combines creamy tuna, spicy mayo, and gooey mozzarella and it’s packed with 25 grams of protein.
  • You can customize the wrap by swapping tuna for other proteins or using different cheeses and tortillas.
  • Chill the tuna salad before toasting for better flavor and easier handling.
  • Serve it with a crisp side salad, soup, or a refreshing drink for a complete meal.

What stands out

Crispy on the outside. Melty on the inside. Our Tuna Melt Wrap is packed with flavor, and even better 25 grams of protein! Wild-caught tuna, a squeeze of lemon, and the dreamy trio of spicy mayo, relish, and mustard all come together in the bite. And we haven’t even talked about the cheese pull! Hand-shredded mozzarella melts into every nook and cranny and extends further than Stretch Armstrong with each bite. All that creamy, zesty, and savory flavor feels so indulgent without ever weighing you down.

Canned Tuna: Go for a good-quality, wild-caught tuna if you can. It has a cleaner taste, a meatier texture, and is a great sustainable choice for quick meals.

Spicy Mayonnaise: This adds creamy heat and ties everything together. You can make your own by mixing mayo with a little sriracha or use your favorite store-bought version.

Relish: Relish gives that tangy crunch that makes tuna salad so addictive.

Mustard: MUSTARRRRRRD! (Sorry, we couldn’t resist!) It’s the secret ingredient that makes this dish shine bright.

Salt and Pepper: Add this dynamic duo to taste. They keep all the ingredients in balance.

Lemon Juice: Sseafood (canned or fresh) always tastes brighter with a squeeze of lemon.

Tortillas: Soft flour tortillas are suited to wrapping and toasting.

Mozzarella: Hand-shredded mozzarella melts so much better than pre-shredded. It’s creamy and melty with all the cheese-pull magic.

Kitchen tip

Let your tuna salad chill for 10 to 15 minutes before toasting the wrap. This helps the flavors marry and makes the filling easier to scoop and spread.

Swaps

  1. Instead of tuna, you can swap your protein for shredded (or canned) chicken, salmon, or even chickpeas for a plant-based version.
  2. Any of your favorite cheeses will work for this recipe. Mozzarella is our fave because it’s so creamy and melty. But, you can totally use cheddar, provolone, or spice things up with pepper jack.
  3. We love using our Homemade Flour Tortillas for this wrap. Additionally, you could use whole wheat, spinach or gluten-free tortillas depending on your preferences. You could even use pita or naan.
  4. Add a sprinkle of fresh herbs like dill, parsley, or chives to the top for a brighter bite.
  5. Make your mayo as cool or spicy as you like! You can also use plant-based mayo for a vegetarian twist.

Questions

Do we use tuna packed in oil or water?

Either one works! Tuna packed in oil has a slightly richer flavor vs. a slightly cleaner taste when packed in water. Either way, just make sure you drain it well.

What’s the best cheese for a tuna melt?

We like to use hand-shredded mozzarella because it’s creamy and melts like a dream. However, you can truly use any cheese you like or whatever you have on hand.

can we make this wrap ahead of time?

You can prep your tuna mixture a couple of days in advance, then assemble and toast just before serving so it doesn’t get soggy.

How do we keep our wrap from getting soggy?

Drain your tuna well and don’t add too much mayo to start. Think about it this way: the relish, lemon juice, mayo, mustard and tuna all have moisture. As the flavors marry, they will continue to release moisture, so less is more.(Remember, you can always add more later, but you can’t take it away!)

Can we use a different protein than tuna?

Of course you can! Instead of tuna, you can swap for canned chicken, salmon, or even chickpeas if you would like a plant-based option.

Can we make this in the air-fryer?

Of course! Instead of the strong mark baking sheet /broiler method, you can pop this in the air fryer at 370°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts.

Ingredients

Makes 2 wraps

  • 1 can wild-caught tuna, or any canned seafood you enjoy, 140 grams
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon spicy mayonnaise, or regular mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon relish
  • 1 teaspoon honey dijon mustard
  • squeeze of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 small tortillas of choice, I used flour
  • ½ cup grated cheese, of choice, I used mozzarella

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowls
  • Measuring Cups + Spoons
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Drain the tuna and add it to a bowl. Using a fork, break it into small pieces.
  2. Add salt and pepper to taste, the mayo, relish, mustard, and lemon and mix well. All of these ingredients should be added to your preference, adding more or less as desired.
  3. Take two small (or one large) tortilla of choice and add the tuna. Top with cheese of choice and pop it on a baking sheet in the oven to fully melt the cheese.
  4. We like putting our oven on low BROIL but you can also heat the wrap at 400F (200C) until the cheese melts. If using the BROIL (top grill only) setting, watch the wrap the whole time as it can easily burn. The air fryer should also work if you want to try.
  5. Once the cheese has melted, you can add any additional toppings or extra mayo on top. Enjoy!
