Tiramisu

Our Tiramisu Recipe is one of those desserts that never needs an introduction — creamy, coffee-soaked, and deeply comforting in the way only a true classic can be. This version keeps everything you love about the original: rich mascarpone, bold coffee, and that signature cocoa finish — but skips the eggs entirely. It comes together quickly, without stovetops or thermometers, and tastes just as luxurious as the traditional method. Fifteen minutes is all you need to layer it up, and then the fridge does the rest of the work. Simple, foolproof, and even better the next day — this is the kind of dessert you’ll make once and come back to again and again.

Before you start

  • Our Tiramisu Recipe offers a creamy, eggless version of the classic Italian dessert, making it simple to prepare in just 15 minutes.
  • Key ingredients include cold whipping cream, mascarpone cheese, sugar, and strong coffee, ensuring a rich flavor without the need for eggs.
  • To avoid soggy ladyfingers, dip them quickly in coffee, and use room temperature mascarpone to prevent lumps in the filling.
  • You can make variations by adjusting sugar levels, using different liquors, or opting for a dairy-free version with coconut cream.
  • This Tiramisu Recipe improves in flavor when made a day ahead and can last in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.

What stands out

Tiramisu has achieved iconic Italian dessert status for a reason. The luxurious creamy mascarpone filling is decadent and just sweet enough without overpowering the dish. Strong espresso soaks into the ladyfingers, softening them perfectly and infusing that signature aroma and flavor. A generous dusting of cocoa finishes it off, adding contrast and tying every layer together. The result is a creamy and smooth bite that’s cool and light. It’s the kind of dessert that tastes even better the next day — simple, elegant, and completely foolproof with no eggs required.

Whipping cream: Keep it cold and whip it softly so the tiramisu stays light and creamy. Mascarpone cheese: Gives the filling its signature richness. Let it come to room temperature so it blends smoothly without lumps. Sugar: Just enough to sweeten the cream and balance the coffee and cocoa. Vanilla extract: Adds warmth and depth to round out the flavors. Cold coffee or espresso: Brew it strong and let it cool completely before dipping the ladyfingers. Kahlua: This is optional, but a splash adds complexity and gives this recipe an adult spin. Ladyfinger cookies: Essential for structure and soaking up the coffee. Cacao powder: A generous dusting adds a slightly bitter finish that balances the sweetness and completes the tiramisu. Optionally, you could use cocoa.

Kitchen tip

Give the ladyfingers a quick dip into the coffee to keep them from getting too soggy.

Swaps

  1. Feel free to add as much sugar as you like to this eggless Tiramisu, but keep in mind that the ladyfingers are sweetened as well, so try not to overdo it. Alternatively, you could use stevia, monkfruit, or coconut sugar.
  2. You are more than welcome to use any coffee liquor or just leave it out altogether. Marsala wine is traditionally used in tiramisu, but you can use rum or brandy as well.
  3. Switch to decaf! If you don’t want the added caffeine from the espresso, you can always make this recipe with decaf coffee.
  4. For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream and your favorite dairy-free cream cheese in place of whipped cream and mascarpone.
  5. Make a thicker tiramisu by using a square pan instead of a 9×13 baking dish. Additionally, you could make them in ramekins for individual portions.

Questions

strong How do we prevent the ladyfingers from becoming too soggy?

Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture quickly. Don’t soak them because they’ll get mushy. Just a quick dip to pick up that coffee flavor and soften.

how do we avoid lumps in our mascarpone filling?

We like to bring the mascarpone up to room temperature so it folds into the whipped cream nicely.

strong Can tiramisu be made ahead of time?

Yes, tiramisu can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Making it ahead allows the layers to set properly and improves the flavor and texture. Store it covered in the refrigerator and add the cocoa powder just before serving.

How long does tiramisu last in the fridge?

Tiramisu lasts 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. Keep it chilled at all times and avoid leaving it at room temperature for long periods to maintain freshness and food safety.

Can you freeze tiramisu?

Yes, tiramisu freezes well for up to 2 months. Wrap it tightly to prevent freezer burn, then thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving. For best results, freeze without the cocoa topping and dust just before serving.

When should you add cocoa powder to tiramisu?

Cocoa powder should be added just before serving tiramisu. Adding it too early can cause it to absorb moisture and lose its rich color and flavor. Dusting right before serving keeps the top looking fresh and velvety.
