How To Prepare Halloween Cheese Board

  • Create the Cheese Base: Begin by taking your goat cheese (or a suitable alternative) and artfully smear it onto a wooden board or plate. So the key here is to make it look inviting and visually appealing, by layering it in elegant swirls on the serving surface.
  • Spooky Jam: In a separate bowl, mix the cherry jam with red food coloring. Then, using a spoon, add dollops of it onto the cheese board.
  • Eerie Decor: Place those creepy spiders and candy eyes strategically on your board.
  • Serving Knives: Complete your board by adding Halloween-themed butter knives. Whether they’re eerie or stylish, these knives add a functional and thematic touch to your cheese board.
  • Personalize and Enjoy: Feel free to let your creativity run wild by adding any other spooky props that match your Halloween theme. After all, it’s all about making it your own.

The family's Spooky Tip

If you don’t have a new board, you can make this in a plate or add a piece of parchment paper onto the board before spreading on the creamy cheese.

Questions

When it comes to toppings, what kinds of preserves or jam can we use in this recipe, and is it possible to personalize it with our favorite choices?

You can personalize this recipe with any toppings you personally love, such as other preserves or jam.

Can you suggest alternatives to goat cheese, and is it feasible to create a vegan version of this cheese board?

Feel free to use any creamy cheese like Boursin, and for those looking for a vegan option, you can also make this board entirely vegan by using plant-based cheese.

Regarding the cheese texture and the choice of serving board, can you provide some guidance?

The cheese should have a soft texture for straightforward spreading, and you can use any type of serving board you have at home. Even a regular plate can work. In our case, we used a small wooden board, measuring 9 inches in length and 7 inches in width.

Is there an alternative method to applying the cheese to the board if we prefer not to spread it directly?

Yes, if you’re not keen on spreading the cheese directly on the board, you can also use a small piece of parchment paper as an alternative.

Could you explain the role of the spiders and candy eyes in the recipe?

Certainly. The spiders are primarily used for presentation, while it’s important to note that the candy eyes are edible. However, please exercise caution as they can be quite hard on the teeth.

For those interested in obtaining the spooky Halloween knives used in this recipe, where can they be found?

We purchased the spooky Halloween knives from Winners a few years back. However, if you wish to source them, you can look online for Halloween butter knives as an alternative option.
